I live between Boston & LA-currently in Boston. I just found out by phone of an incident of theft where ALL of my belongings that I had in LA (including ALL my financial records, medical records, photocopies of my passport and drivers license, ALL of my important work files & irreplaceable items, extremely sentimental/irreplaceable family items, ALL of my clothes, approx $28,000 of jewelery,etc,etc-absolutely everything I had to my name in California was stolen!Obviously I am beyond upset not only at the significant monetary loss but also that ALLof my personal information is now out there somewhere. The first thing I naturally did was call the LAPD who informed me that it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to file a police report unless I am in Los Angeles-yet I'm not able to get back until July. I even spoke to an identity theft dept who also told me there was absolutely nothing I could do from the other side of the country-I asked if a friend in LA could file it for me so at least the police could investigate it but they said they could not since it was not their property.I feel so helpless and devastated that I have lost everything & the theft was due to gross negligence of the company I paid to keep it safe-yet I can do nothing from here?!
